Veterans History Project
The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
VHP’s mission is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war.
Honorable Randall B Rosenbaum announced that Champaign County’s 6th Judicial Circuit, various partners of the Champaign County legal community, and the County of Champaign will participate in the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. This year's project will take place at the Champaign County Courthouse in Urbana on the morning of Friday, Nov. 8, 2024.
Registration is now open and will run through Friday, October 25, 2024. Early registration is encouraged as there are a limited number of spaces available.
The event kicks off with check-in, followed by a brief program. The registered veterans are then invited to sit together for a group photograph to commemorate their participation. After the photograph, they will then be escorted to their assigned rooms to give their oral histories with the assistance of volunteer attorney interviewers. Each interview is recorded by a volunteer court reporter which will then be transcribed and archived at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. This program will be a moving and inspirational experience for all who attend
